[Overview]

The Satsuki Sho was modeled after the 2000 Guineas in England and started in 1939, the same year as the Oka Sho. It acquired its current name in 1949 and was held at Nakayama Racecourse. From the following year, 1950, it has been run over the same 2000 meters as it is today.

Like the Oka Sho, this race also requires a separate classic registration before the entry registration two weeks prior. Since 1992, it has been possible to participate in races by paying an additional registration fee, and the horse that first used this system to win a classic race was TM Opera O in 1999.

In 'Umamusume Cinderella Gray,' her silhouette appears in the scene where Symboli Rudolf wishes for system reform, and in the anime 'Umamusume ROAD TO THE TOP,' which is available on YouTube, there is a scene where Oguri Cap advises T. M. Opera O to participate in the Satsuki Shou. This is an homage to the time when trainer Setoguchi, who actually managed Oguri Cap, offered advice to the team of T M Opera O.

* classic races : Oka sho, Oaks, Satuski sho, Derby, Kikuka sho

In 1984, the grading system for major races was introduced and it became a G1 race, but even before that, it had been held as one of the "Seven Major Races" or "Eight Major Races," regarded as a prestigious race among the major races.

* Seven Major Races : Oka sho, Oaks, Satuski sho, Derby, Kikuka sho, Tenno sho (Spring & Autumn) + Arima Kinen (Eight Major Races)

'Satsuki' originally means the month of May, and the timing of the race name change was when it was held in May. Heading toward the upcoming Derby in May, who will take the first of the Triple Crown?
