[Overview]

The NHK Mile Cup traces its origins to the NHK Hai, which was established in 1953 as a preparatory race for the Japanese Derby. Since the Japan Derby and Oaks are run over 2400 meters, they became target races for horses with shorter distance suitability and for foreign-bred horses that were not eligible to compete at that time.

For the main races for three-year-old horses, classic registration is required before the race entry registration two weeks in advance, but this race does not require it. However, geldings (castrated male horses) are not allowed to run in the race, just like in the classic races.

At the time of its establishment, many of the horses running were foreign-bred, but in recent years there have been times when this was not the case. Who will take on the next generation of short-distance battlefronts?
