[Overview]

The Kawasaki Kinen, which began in 1951 to commemorate the opening ("Kaisetsu" in Japanese) of the racecourse, is the biggest race held at this racecourse.

In 1979, it was given the current name 'Kawasaki Kinen,' and since 1996, horses belonging to the JRA have been allowed to participate. In 1998, it became a G1 race, the highest grade among graded races in which JRA-affiliated horses could participate.

* Since 2007, it has become possible to use the G1, G2, and G3 notation only for races in which horses based abroad can participate, so when limited to domestic races, the notation has changed to Jpn1, Jpn2, and Jpn3.

In 1999, it became a 2,100-meter race, making it the longest distance race among G1-level dirt races.

Since its opening, it had been held in January or February, but due to the system reorganization in 2024, it was moved to early April, and since then, the races have been held at night. In the Umamusume game, the race schedule from 2019 is applied, so this race is held in early February.

The timing is after the Dubai meeting, and it is a race where potential future stars of the mid-distance dirt racing scene are expected to appear.
